Femto-Lasik treatment

Femto-lasik is one of the most recent technology of refractive surgery. It treats all sight conditions. Whether you suffer from short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hypermetropia/hyperopia), astigmatism or age-related long-sightedness (presbyopia).

Unlike the PRK, the Femto-lasik is a two step procedure involving two lasers: Femtosecond Visumax laser and the Excimer laser.

First, the surgeon creates a small flap in the cornea to prepare the eye for the next step, the vision correction. The top layer of the cornea is separated with the laser and folded back.

This procedure is performed inside the cornea; the outer, very sensitive layers of the cornea are not touched by the laser. Finally, the treated area is recovered with the flap that grows back quickly. The whole procedure takes only a couple of minutes. (See the video below).

Step 1

Flap Creation with VisuMax laser within seconds.

Step 2

An excimer laser ablates corneal tissue. The vision becomes blurred however this step is completely painless

Step 3

Once the cornea is reshaped, the surgeon fold back the flap and the vision becomes clearer. Duration 5 minutes.

Step 4

the flap will naturally adheres to the cornea in seconds.

The procedure is painless, takes about 5 minutes per eye under local anesthesia and allows rapid visual recovery (24 to 48 hours).
It has also other advantages like:

  •  Greater safety and more comfort for the patient;
  •  Larger treatment surface with better stability;
  •  The outcomes for vision are excellent.

After surgery patient might feel a discomfort in the light or ocular dryness for a few weeks.
